A darkly toned Batkrian drachm
Lot 911
BAKTRIA, Local Issues. Circa 285/3-280/78 BC. Drachm (Silver, 13 mm, 2.26 g, 6 h), local standard, uncertain mint in the Oxus region. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with three olive leaves and palmette. Rev. Eagle standing left, head turned back to right; above, grape on vine. HGC 12, 8. SNG ANS 9. Darkly toned. Very fine.

The weight of this piece is quite odd: at 2.26 g it is considerably too heavy for a hemidrachm but also way too light for a drachm (which is what it should be, based on the diameter). Perhaps it is a plated imitation with a bronze core hidden below a layer of silver
